Check the battery connections for corrosion, debris, dirt, or any signs of damage. Replace the connections if there are signs of corrosion or other damage. Unless you are fully confident in your wiring and electrical skills, take your buggy to a maintenance shop with experience in golf cart repair. You should also take it in for regular maintenance checks on the engine, brakes, suspension, tires, and other parts.
Wash your cart on a regular basis to prevent damage to the finish. Use a golf cart cover to protect your cart between rides and during short- or long-term storage.

Golf is a game that you play. It's more than being able to hit shots. Hitting the ball well doesn't make you a good golfer; getting the ball in the hole does. That calls for strategic golf. The two most important rules of strategy for recreational golfers are:

1. Play the shot that will put your ball in the best position for the next shot.
2. If you are not skilled enough to put the ball in that spot, choose a spot that you can play to which will still give you a workable next shot.

I played a round early one spring with a friend of mine, a middle-aged adult who picked up the game just a few years ago. It was a cool day, so the ball flew shorter, and the fairways were wet, which meant it was all carry off the tee. We both drove into the fairway on a long par 4, which under the day's conditions was playing as a par 5.

We got to his ball, about 190 yards from the tee, and he wondered out loud what to do. The green was more than 200 yards away, over a pond, and guarded by another pond on the left. I wouldn't try for the green from there on a good day. So I said, "How about taking out your wedge and pitching down the fairway past the 150-yard pole for a short iron into the green?" He said, "Yeah, I suppose. (Pause) Nah, I'm going for it." The next sounds we heard were his hybrid club slapping the soggy turf, followed by the rude splash of his ball entering the nearer pond.

We walked up 10 yards to my ball. I took out my wedge, pitched past the 150-yard pole, walked up to it again, and hit an 8-iron onto the green. He said, "Oh. That's what you meant." Rule 1, Rule 2.

Have you ever come across a golfer who is walking the course happier and more confidently and coincidentally playing better golf shots than they were last time you met? When you ask what their new found confidence is due to, they say that they have fixed a problem with a new tip they just "discovered."

Yes, the "tips" trick. Somehow a tip from a magazine or friend (worse) has magically transformed a player's game and is the reason they are driving it long and straight or holing putts from everywhere!

This is not to say that the improvement in their game is not real, because in many cases it is and even I would have to admit that tips work if the tip continued to give the player the same improved results for months and years, but they don't.

Don't get confused between reading a quick fix tip in a magazine (or a friend's advice) and a well thought out piece of information given to you by a seasoned pro after he or she has had time to get to know you and your swing.

The actual truth, as painful as this may be for the "tipsters" to admit to (and they probably won't as tips sell a lot of magazines) is that the real reason golfers can enjoy a short respite and play better golf is because of a change in their mental attitude. If a golfer feels confident with a new tip they will play with more confidence and in a more relaxed state which will in turn result in better shots, thus reinforcing the myth that tips work.

If golf swing tips worked then golfers would all be playing scratch golf by now and there would be no need for coaches. Your local club pro would be a thing of the past or perhaps relegated to a keeper of the tips. How come the average handicap has not changed much in the last 30 years if tips are so good? How come the average golfer who improves with a golf tip is back where they started inside a month, the tip abandoned and an excuse for why it stopped working thought up?

I wonder if golfers like tips because they are quick and easy much the same as trying to fix a problem by buying a new driver? This is after all a highly appealing concept. The truth is that all golf, including the physical aspects, starts internally. In addition remember that all physical movement is born and controlled in your mind. There are technically better golf swings out there that don't produce anywhere near the results because they are hindered by weaker minds. Tiger is not the most accurate off the tee and he is not the best putter on tour. The difference is that when Tiger absolutely has to make the shot he is deadly at it and that's mental game at work.

If there is just one part of your mental game you focus on, it should be just before you are about to hit the ball. Try to develop a quiet mind sharply focused on the target only without allowing any other thoughts to enter your head as you are about to strike the ball. Instead you need to trust that you have trained your swing and that the ball will go where you want it to go.

Play the Percentage Game

"Make the centre of the green your friend". In the last few holes of a major championship, Jack Nicklaus once revealed that he never aims at the flag, only at the middle of the green. He felt it was the smart play as it minimised his chances of missing the green and virtually guaranteed him a birdie putt. The fact is, ignoring the pin and aiming all of your approach shots at the middle of the green is a very smart strategy. This should be done with every single shot, whether it's a 9-iron or a 4-iron. This builds in a better margin for error so you have more green either side of the perfect golf shot and even if you stray slightly off line you'll still find the putting surface. Playing percentage golf is one of the best ways to lower your handicap over time.

Leave your Ego at Home

Playing the percentage game means you need to leave your ego at home. So avoid the temptation to go for the big hit every time you tee up. In other words, don't go flag hunting on every hole. If you are not a regular player you are not going to hit every shot where you are looking and you will almost certainly increase your chances of playing better and of being able to lower your handicap over time by playing within yourself.

Golf - The Best Instruction Book Ever (My Quest For it and What I Really Discovered)

When I first picked up golf, I went to Google and searched for "golf the best instruction book ever" . If you're reading this, then it's highly likely you just did the same. When I started my drives were short, my putt was off and my score was well above 100. Simply take two minutes to read on and I'll save you hours of searching for the much coveted "holy grail" manual to golf. I'll also share with you tips from a golf legend which transformed my golf strategy.

Will reading a golf book improve your game? The answer is yes. Yes if you're new to the game. Yes, if you've put in hours of practice at the driving range and can't seem to get any consistent results. Most especially a yes if you're contemplating investing in a new set of irons out of pure desperation. Even the great Greg Norman started from a book.

It was legendary US PGA, British Open and US Open winner Tom Armour that put things in perspective. While by far this wasn't what I was looking for when I was searching for "golf - the best instruction book ever", this text only, no pictures book gave me a simple 2 step strategy.

Tom recaps how one of his students sends the ball into the rough on the first hole. Tom stopped him from using a 5 iron and hands him an 8 instead. He then instructed his student to aim for the fairway, try pitching on the green and close with a 1 putt. The student finished the round at a 78.

The 2 principles from the text were simple:

1) ALWAYS play the shot you can execute MOST predictably. Even the pros have bad swing days, but they always know which shots they're best at to get them out of the ditches.

2) Play THIS shot in a way that will make the NEXT shot easiest. In other words plan 1 shot ahead.

Once I got that into my head, I stopped aiming for the best swing or the perfect putt. I executed the shots that I was already good at MOST of the time. And yes, I eventually broke 90 but it was with an ebook by Bobby Eldridge of the world renowned PurePoint Golf system. The beauty of the book (which on hindsight deserves the title "GOLF - The Best Instruction Book Ever") is that it is backed by Bobby's personal support and guarantee.

Golf Tips on Hitting Solid Irons

To improve iron play fast - and chop strokes off your golf handicap - look to your hands. It's hard to hit quality shots if you don't use your hands correctly. As a serious golfer looking to improve, you must learn what role your hands play in hitting iron shots. If you do, you'll boost your game to a new level and you'll whittle strokes from your golf handicap as well.

Many weekend golfers learn to hold a club either by taking golf lessons or reading golf tips in magazines or books. What they may not learn from this golf instruction is that the way you hold the club impacts on how you cock your wrists at the top of the swing. That in turn determines clubface position at impact. If your clubface isn't square at impact, you'll slice or pull your irons.

Weak Grip/Flat Wrist

If you're right-handed, a weak grip encourages a cocking mechanism that produces a flat left wrist at the top of the swing. A weak grip for a right-handed golfer features the back of the left-hand pointing to the target and the "V" formed by your thumb and forefinger pointing toward your left ear. With a weak grip, you must keep your left wrist from cupping to maintain the clubface on line during the swing.

If your left wrist cups, you're asking for trouble. You'll rotate the clubface too far open on the backswing and throw the clubface off the correct delivery path. Only players blessed with ultra-fast hand speed, like Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson can square up the clubface at impact from this position. Making adjustments like this for usually spells trouble for players of all golf handicaps.

Strong Grip/Cupped Wrist

If you're a right-handed player, a stronger grip accommodates more of a left wrist cup at the top. A stronger grip for a right handed golfer is one in which the back of the left hand for a right handed player points more toward the sky, and the target and the "V" formed by the thumb and forefinger points toward your shoulder. With this grip you must avoid flattening the left wrist too much as you hinge the iron to the top.

A stronger grip plus a flat left wrist at the top usually results in a laying off of the club or swinging too far inside. Either way, you must make adjustments to get the club back on plane and on the correct delivery path. If you don't, your clubface won't be square at impact. Again, making adjustments during your swing spells trouble for players of all golf handicaps, unless you have super fast hands.

Golf Instructors Favor Stronger Grip

Many golf instructors favor a stronger grip for weekend golfers. It's a little harder to learn to control, but when paired with a slight left wrist cup, it provides for better overall club control and allows for more hinge. That in turn creates more lag in the backswing to downswing transition, generating more clubhead speed and increasing power.

For even more power, grip the club with a slightly stronger grip. To do that, make the "V" created by the left thumb and foreigner point toward the right shoulder, with the palm of the right hand facing the target. Be careful though. Too strong a grip results in a hook.

Your grip is personal. You should adopt one that feels comfortable to you. There have been as many great players with weak grips as there have been with strong grips. The key is to match the right grip with the correct type of wrist cocking mechanism, making it easier to return the clubface to the ball square. Do that and you'll not only hit more solid irons, you'll do it more consistently and you'll chop strokes off your golf handicap.

Space is limited, so we'll try to focus only on those tips that are most asked for and that we deem to be the best golf tips to score better that seems to plague most golfers.

First, if you have a bad temper, you probably shouldn't take up golf. We're just kidding, really. However, golf can be a frustrating game. I'd a laid back person and have thrown my club a time or two a good 30+ yards into the woods. I've seen folks throw their clubs in the water, beat the heck out of the ground, and down right sell their entire set by the 18th hole.

Actually, golf can be good for your mental state and golf is a mental game so if you get nothing else out of this article, understand that in order to get better scoring at golf, you'll have to work on the mental aspects of the game.

You may find that you can take out your frustration on the golf course in productive ways and perhaps you can gain better control of that temper! Hey it beats a day at work doesn't it??

Since most people have trouble with their setup, our first best golf tips to score better will deal with the setup...

**Position your body so your body is parallel with the target line

**Your feet should be shoulder width apart. Sometimes for taller players, I recommend widening that stance a bit.

**Make sure the ball is in line with the club you are using. With short irons, put the ball in the center of your stance. Drivers, woods, and long irons - the ball should be at your front heal. Trouble shots will vary and that is an article in and of itself.

**Balance your weight on the balls of your feet. The key is to be comfortable because you'll be utilizing your entire body to maneuver through the line of the swing.

**Bend your knees slightly and keep your spine straight

**Another tip is to just move in a fluent motion back and forth, back and forth, letting your body move your arms
naturally through the ball.

**Keep your head stead and eye on the ball until well after you complete your follow-through swing. If you don't do this, you will have a tendency to stand up on the ball which will cause you to top the ball. Do this with all shots.

What has always worked for me is to pick a spot on the ball and don't let go. If done right the ball will go where you want so there's no need to look prematurely.

Just note that there are a lot of little tidbits to a perfect golf swing, but if you boggle your mind with all of these, you'll be sure to hit a bad shot.

Just to walk you through a golf shot. First I visualize my shot before I ever hit it. I learned this technique from the great Tony Robbins. I have hit a great golf shot at least once and perhaps you have too.

Picture that in your mind because you will set your body up to recall that shot and act in that motion. Then visualize exactly what you want the ball to do. Why do you think the pros stand behind the ball and line things up before they approach?

Then you line your body up according to the above. Keep your body in line, get comfortable, make sure your grip is solid, relax, and do your waggle. Keep this part consistent so your body knows what is going to happen (we did say this was a mental game didn't we?)

Once you've done all that, bring you club back in "one-piece" as they say. Let your arms break naturally shifting your weight to the back. Then in one motion with your head steady, bring the club down through the ball while shifting (not turning) your weight through the ball. Follow through, let your back shoulder bring your head up, and watch the beauty of your perfect golf swing.

Lets face it, when there is so much movement going on through your arms, shoulders and torso, keeping the thing that sits on top of it all still is quite a tall order.

The next time you watch a golf tournament on television concentrate on the head movement of several different players and you will see that everyone will have some degree of head movement, and some more so that others. However, the one thing that you will find they all have in common is that their heads will remain behind the ball all the way through the swing right up to the point of impact between the club head and the ball. During their back swing you see some head movement but it will still be behind the ball when it is hit. You should try and follow this example and at the same time try and keep your head movement down to as little as possible. However, when you are playing for real, you shouldn't be concentrating on your head movement. Mastering these techniques is something for the practice game to the point where once it is mastered in practice it will become second nature the rest of the time.

Once the ball has been struck you should make an effort to watch the ball or turn towards its flight. This is something that again will come naturally as you complete your swing and allow the head to move with the shoulders.

As ever, you shouldn't feel you have to force any of these movements. Your golf swing is something that should be natural to you, so any adjustments you make should be made in small steps over a long period of time so as not to disturb your swing.

For a lot of amateur golfers, feeling the clubhead when swinging simply doesn't happen and sadly never will. But for golf professionals they have an intimate feeling of where the golf club is at all times during the golf swing.

Could that be a golf swing secret?

Well, I don't want to say for certain but if you have trouble feeling the clubhead as you're swinging here's a simple golf drill that will help give you the feeling of the clubhead as you're swinging. This can only help you to hit the golf ball better.

To do this golf drill simply setup to a golf ball and grip the golf club as you normally would. BUT move your grip up the club so that you have the last two fingers of your top hand off the end of the golf grip. Once you have done this then I want you to swing with this "new" golf grip.

By doing this it will force you to place a lot less emphasis on your hands and arms as your big muscles will be forced to control the golf swing. You'll also get great feedback when doing this golf drill if you swing too fast because if you do you'll lose all control of the golf club through the ball.

If that happens you simply have to swing the golf club with more rhythm and better tempo.

And what you want to feel when doing this golf drill is that the golf ball simply gets in the way of your golf swing. You shouldn't force anything, especially with your golf grip. Remember to "swing the golf club" and not "hit the golf ball". The golf ball is hit as the result of you "swinging the golf club"!

So please do this golf drill and you'll get a much better feeling of the golf clubhead as you're swinging and definitely through the ball. Don't however expect to hit the golf ball great when doing this golf drill. That's not the point of this golf drill. Instead when doing this drill you should be focusing of the feelings that go along with swinging with the different grip. Then you can transfer those feelings over to your normal golf swing, which can only help to improve your ball striking.

Now I've said this before, but because it's so important I'll say it again. The golf ball should just get in the way of your golf swing. You should not "try" to hit the golf ball.

If you have been struggling with hitting the golf ball low on purpose or high on purpose, then I have some golf lessons for you.

Let’s start with the golf ball that you’re trying to hit as low as you can and hit a quality golf shot. Sometimes you're faced with this shot when you’ve hit it off the fairway and you have a tree in front of you. You’re a little worried about, “Can I get to the green and hit the golf ball low on the ground?”

The next shot you’re worried about is, “Can I get over the tree and get the golf ball on the green?” Sometimes you try to have your cake and eat it too. These golf lessons are going to tell you how to hit the golf ball low on purpose and then how to hit the golf ball high on purpose.

For starters, make sure that when you reach into your golf bag, before you take out a golf club, that you see the picture of the shot you're trying to hit.

If you want to try to keep the golf ball in the air as it goes underneath the tree, you’ll want to pick a low lofted golf club, one that has a flatter face. I suggest going with a 7 iron.

The method that you want to be really careful of and make sure that you get it right on before you start the swing, is have the ball back in your stance, across from your right foot, a little weight on your left leg, and have the handle over on your left leg.

This will ensure that the golf ball doesn’t go up in the air. From here all you have to remember is that it’s a low follow-through.

You want to make sure that you keep your weight on your left leg during the backswing, but that you follow through low so the golf ball has a running effect and it won’t get up in the air and hit the trees.

This is what a lot of us do. We start on our left side, we go back on our right side, and then we wind up hitting the golf ball up in the tree.

One last time: ball back in your stance, handle over toward your left pant leg, weight on your left let, arms up and down. If you follow these golf lessons, the golf ball will take off running and go underneath the tree.

Well, I have a great golf instruction tip for you today. Are you ready? The reason that you struggle when you pitch is because the golf club swings down in the downswing, and just before it gets to the golf ball, it starts to swing back up and you wind up hitting the middle of the golf ball.

When you pitch the golf ball, the goal is to hit down on the ball and to have the ball crawl up the face of the golf club and go onto the green. The only way to make this happen is for the leading edge of the club to hit the bottom of the golf ball. The reason that many golfers skull the ball over the green is because they focus on the follow through being high and as a result, hit the ball on the upswing. In short, they don’t hit down on the ball, but rather hit up on the ball.

Imagine the golfer with the high follow through. As they come down, they start to swing back up again. Can you imagine how high the club face is at follow through? This is the incorrect way to hit a pitch shot. I’ve been in golf instruction for a long time and this is one of the most common problems I see.

The correct way is to put a little extra weight on your left leg, or the front leg, lean over on top of it, and with your arms, swing the club head down and let the golf ball go up. It will crawl right on up the club face. The key is to follow through low to the ground, not high.

In the downswing make sure, with your weight on your left side, that you swing your arms down and get the leading edge to swing into the ground. And then, the golf ball will crawl all the way up the face and take off for the target.

So remember, ball in the middle of your stance, weight on your left leg, swing your arms up and down. We like to keep golf instruction simple.

For better impact and for a little more loft when you're pitching, get the feeling that you're swinging the club face down into the ground.

When golf was first played in Scotland, most players played using clumsy golf apparatus, with the first golf clubs and golf balls made of wood.

In 1618 the “Featherie” was introduced. It was a golf ball made of feather. This feather golf ball was handcrafted from goose feathers tightly pressed into a horse or cowhide sphere while still wet. After drying, the leather shrank and the feathers expanded, creating a hardened golf ball.

As this type of golf ball was specially handcrafted, it was usually more expensive than golf clubs, so that only a few privileged people could afford to play golf back then.

After the Featherie golf ball came the Guttie golf ball. This type of golf ball was made from the rubber-like sap of the Gutta tree found in the tropics, and was shaped into a sphere when hot and eventually into a golf ball. As it was made of rubber, the Guttie golf ball could be cheaply produced and easily repaired by reheating and reshaping.

Comparing the two types of golf balls, the Featherie golf ball was said to travel farther than the Guttie golf ball because the Guttie golf ball’s smooth surface prevented it from covering more distance.

With this discovery, the developers of golf balls came up with the “dimpled” golf balls that are so predominant in modern golf nowadays.

The dimples on the golf balls help reduce the aerodynamic drag. Aerodynamic drag normally affects smooth golf balls and slows them down, because when they sail through the air, they leave a pocket of low-pressure air in its stir thus creating a drag.

By applying dimples to the golf ball surface, the pressure differential goes down and the drag force is reduced. These dimples create turbulence in the air surrounding the golf ball, which, in turn, forces the air to clasp the golf ball more closely. By doing so, the air trails the warp created by the golf ball towards the back instead of flowing past it. This results in a smaller wake and lesser drag.

Dimples were first added onto golf ball surfaces back during the gutta percha phase. Coburn Haskell introduced the one-piece rubber cored golf ball encased in a gutta percha sphere. Then in 1905 William Taylor applied the dimple pattern to a Haskell golf ball, thus giving rise to the modern golf ball as we know it today.

After its beginning, dimpled golf balls were officially used in every golf tournament. In 1921, the golf ball took its current form with standard size and weight. Nowadays there is a wide range of golf balls to fit every style, game and condition, with some golf balls offering control, and other golf balls offering distance.

Though a common sight nowadays, the dimpled golf ball is not just a mere element of the sports arena; it is a showcase of physics at work.

The golf ball is a strange little ball, it is full of little bumps or dimples unlike other balls. You would expect a golf ball to be smooth more like a ping-pong ball only heavier right? Did the golf ball start out this way? Or are we looking at a slow process of evolution?

Over the years and throughout the history of golf there have been many a golf ball introduced to the game. The very first golf ball was the featherie. This was a leather pouch that was filled with feathers. It has to be filled with wet feathers and the leather was also soaked as well. This was all stitched inside out and then soaked in oil and dried and this left it a hard ball. This type of golf ball was then painted white and used on the golf course. It was not the most effective ball as it was only goof until it got wet, once that happened this golf ball was out of commission.

The next popular form of golf ball was the gutta-percha golf ball. This was a golf ball made from the gum of a Malaysian tree. The golf ball maker would take some of this Malaysian Sapodilla tree gun and mold it with heat into a ball like shape. This was a golf ball with smooth sides and it surprisingly enough did not even go as far as the featherie did and the featherie only went 150-175 yards a shot. So this golf ball was not the best one ever produced to say the least. But at this golf ball aged one professor noticed that it did better. It was the markings on the golf ball as it was used that was allowing it to travel further.

This is how the golf ball came to have the simples that it does today. Different people experimented with the best types of outer surfaces on a golf ball until this way was agreed to be the most efficient. A golf ball has a strange construction throughout however, the oddity of the golf ball does not only live skin deep. The inside of a golf ball consists of a rubber ball, a small one that is then wrapped over and over thousands of times with rubber thread. It is this thread of the golf ball that is then coated with the enameling, the enameling with dimples that gives the golf ball its recognizable finish.

The standard weight and size for the golf ball was established in 1930, in Britain and in 1932, in America. Both organizations had different specifications until 1990, when the standard was set. As we approach our senior years, we start to find that walking around a golf course is getting harder to achieve or we have ventured out to a course that uses golf carts exclusively.

Golf cart care is to check the tyres regularly and ensure that you don't go over rough terrain that would damage the tyres. A flat tyre out the extreme end of the course is not fun when you have to walk back to the clubhouse for help. Driving too fast can easily damage the tyres and could get you into dangerous situations so care is required to help maximise the longevity of the tyres.
